Hooray! You have picked out your gorgeous new countertops, and now, it is almost time to have them installed in your home. But if you have never been through the process before, you may find yourself wondering how to prepare or what to expect on installation day. No need to worry! At Bad Lizard Granite & Quartz, we make your countertop installation as hassle-free and seamless as possible. And to help answer your questions, our expert team has compiled some tips to guide you through your upcoming countertop installation. Continue reading to learn more.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR INSTALLATION DAY

Before our installation team arrives, please make sure that the work area (your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc.) and the path to the work area are clear of any obstacles. Keep in mind that the sheer size and weight of the stone make it very difficult for our team to sidestep and step over any obstacles. A clear path and plenty of space mean less risk of damage or injury.

We also ask you to empty all items (tools, houseware items, etc.) from the base cabinets in the work area. You can leave any upper cabinets as they are. Again, we ask that you clear your base cabinets because we do not want to damage anything. Furthermore, when the job is complete, we thoroughly clean your cabinets, appliances and flooring. And if the cabinets are full of objects, it is challenging for us to clean them properly.

THE COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION PROCESS

The countertop installation process begins with one of our sales staff visiting the customer to get their perspective and scope of the project. After the customer has contracted us to do their job, we schedule two dates. On the first date, our construction team goes out. They remove the existing countertops and ensure that the cabinets in the space are perfectly flat to support the new countertops. At this time, our team also obtains a digital template via a laser system. That digital template is returned to our facility and programmed into our state-of-the-art CNC equipment. This process guarantees that we only provide custom countertops with the utmost precision. Finally, on the second date, the installation team returns to our customer’s home to install the new countertops.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO DURING THE COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION PROCESS?

A frequent question we receive at Bad Lizard is, “What should I do during the day of the countertop installation?” First, we ask that you remain nearby in case we have any questions. With that in mind, we also ask that our customers give our on-site teams (excluding our sales staff) the ability to work without repeated interruptions so they can complete the installation efficiently.

HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE?

Be mindful that the time for countertop installation is dependent on the complexity of the job and the square footage. But an average kitchen countertop installation usually ranges from around three to five hours.

WHEN CAN YOU BEGIN USING YOUR NEW COUNTERTOPS?

Now that your new countertops are complete, we know that you cannot wait to begin using them! However, for natural stone, we recommend that our customers refrain from using their countertops for a minimum of 24 hours so the sealant can fully cure. This rule does not apply to engineered surfaces like quartz because it does not need sealing. Additionally, all under-mount sinks must be left alone for a minimum of 48 hours so the bond can fully cure.
