Five Tips For A Smooth Renovation

Oct 21, 2020 | Construction, House, Premier Countertop Installation and Fabrication

Are you considering a renovation project soon? If so, you are not alone. According to the Home Improvement Research Institute, approximately 75 percent of homeowners are planning one or more renovation projects in the next three months. Their top projects include kitchen, windows, driveway, exterior paint and roof.

There is a lot that goes into a remodeling project. Our team at Bad Lizard understands that remodeling projects can often feel overwhelming and complicated — but they don’t have to be! Check out five of our tips below for a smooth renovation, and you will be admiring your newly completed project’s before and after pictures in no time!

MAKE A PLAN

Planning ahead for your renovation project will help to prevent delays in the future. There still may be surprises along the way, but you can be better prepared for them if you take the time to plan ahead.

We recommend developing a renovation plan that outlines your goals, needs and wants for the project. This plan will help you make clear decisions during the planning phase. A renovation plan can also help keep your budget on track.

SET A BUDGET

A renovation budget should include the costs of building materials, labor, building permits and decorating finishes. Knowing what you can and cannot afford will make it easier to figure out what you want to replace and where you need to get a little creative during the renovation process. We also recommend setting aside some money for any unexpected expenses.

While it may seem like a good idea to choose the cheapest option for materials and craftsmanship to save money, this may not be the best decision. Selecting the most affordable option could be far more expensive in the long run if work is not completed properly or the materials used are not of good quality.

At Bad Lizard, we want to make sure you choose the best countertop option for the budget you have in place. When it comes to the budget you have for your countertops, our team suggests you consider the following:

  • Type of material chosen
  • Grade of the granite
  • Color and pattern
  • Preferred edges (flat or rounded, etc.)
  • The complexity of labor to fabricate

CREATE A TIMELINE

Once you have made a plan and set a budget, you can create a timeline for the renovation project. This timeline will help to keep your renovation on track. The timeline should include important dates like move-in or sell-by dates, holidays or special events. It will also need to consider the existing work contracts of any contractors and companies you hire to assist you with your renovation. Make sure to allow for a few extra days in case unforeseen delays arise.

HIRE THE RIGHT HELP

Choosing the right contractor and company to help with your remodeling project is crucial; selecting the wrong ones can end in a disaster. You should look for contractors and companies with expertise and proven experience, ones with positive customer reviews on Facebook and Google.

At Bad Lizard, we strive to provide a level of professionalism that is often missed within our industry. When you invite us into your home for a consultation, construction work, templating or installation, we want you to know that we will treat your home like it is our home. Trevor Flanagan and Jonnie Rominger, the co-owners of Bad Lizard, have a combined 40+ years of experience in construction. The rest of the Bad Lizard team is comprised of highly skilled craftsmen as well. You can learn more about our team here

Furthermore, we don’t watch our competition and try to replicate their process. Instead, we make sure that we lead the way and set the example that others try to emulate.  We take that even further by periodically sending our installers and fabricators to training courses where they can learn new techniques, new tooling and hone their skills. If there is a better product or a better technique that the industry has created, chances are we already have it!

At Bad Lizard, we take pride in our craftsmanship, professionalism and the experience we provide our customers. We are happy to say we have a positive reputation with our customers and our community. We are happy to provide you with references, and we invite you to check out our testimonials page and our Facebook page to see what our customers are saying about their experience with Bad Lizard!

ENJOY THE PROCESS

Taking time to plan, set a budget, create a timeline, and hire the right people to do the job will help ensure that your renovation project goes smoothly and according to plan. Renovation doesn’t have to be stressful; it can and should be an exciting and enjoyable process!

While we do not build out full kitchens or bathrooms, we are able to work with contractors. This means that we can install countertops while the rest of your kitchen, bath or home is being built or remodeled.

We hope you will choose to use Bad Lizard Granite & Quartz in your future home projects or remodels. We want our customers to enjoy their renovation projects and make the best decisions possible. That is why we are ready and eager to help. If you have any questions regarding our slabs, countertop materials, remnants or more, please call us at 304-472-6483 or contact us online
