5 Ways to Make an Old Bathroom Look New Again

Mar 22, 2022 | Bathroom, Venetian Marble Showers

It’s that time again –– your once modern and updated bathroom is starting to feel like a blast from the past

Don’t worry. We think we can help you do a little updating.

Read on to see our best tips for sprucing up an older bathroom and making it feel new again.

#1: WALLPAPER IS BACK, BABY

Yeah, we said it. Wallpaper. What was once a sin in bathroom renovations is coming back again. You can add color, pattern, and flare for cheap with wallpaper. Wallpaper is also easy to clean and stands up against humidity. Some even get creative enough to make their own graphic wall coverings or peel-and-stick designs.

The close cousin of wallpapering is an accent wall. With little to no cost, the addition of a backsplash, accent wall, tile, or subway wall can go a long way to add flavor to your bathroom scene.

#2: TOPS AND BOTTOMS

Another way to spruce up the place is to update the ceiling and floor. You can easily give the ceiling a facelift by covering it in beadboard or extending it down the walls for a canopy effect.

You could switch up the old tile for something a bit more modern and creative on the other end of things. Vinyl composition tile is a durable and inexpensive alternative to standard tile and will give your bathroom a fresh new look.

#3: PAINT, IT’S THAT SIMPLE

Don’t have time to invest in some of the above renovations? Paint will go a long way. If your bathroom paint or wallpaper has lost some of its sheen, scrap it and try a coat of color instead. Paint has a way of making something old look brand new.

Here are some colors we’ve recommended before:

  • Organic, muted greens, resembling sage, eucalyptus, and moss
  • Nutty browns, resembling chestnuts and tree bark
  • Ocean blues combining aqua, turquoise, and deep blues and grey undertones
  • Rich earth tones with mustard yellows, gold, and deep and light browns
  • Lush green resembling a forest, including aloe, clover, olive, and citron

#4: A NEW REFLECTION

Mirrors have a way of adding depth of field, light, and complexity to any room. Particularly in a bathroom, where space can be primarily limited. We recommend adding more mirrors in a bathroom to restore the room’s breadth and provide texture to an already somewhat dim area.

Another way to use mirrors creatively is to add a frame around vanity mirrors, replace mirrors with something a bit more ornate, or add decorative molding around the existing mirror for a sophisticated finish.

#5: VENETIAN MARBLE, CLASS WITHOUT THE COST

Our Venetian Marble showers have kept us busy this season. With their growing popularity for bathroom redesign projects, we can hardly keep the material on the shelf. This type of marble instantly adds a timeless and luxurious look to its surroundings.

Venetian Marble is quick to install, easy to clean, and is nearly half the cost of a custom tile and grout installation. Learn more about this product and its benefits by visiting our blog, Venetian Marble Shower Surrounds: A Timeless Touch for Your Bathroom.
